Self-discovery is a cornerstone of the Schwab Foundation's efforts to help students understand what they are good at and how they can get paid for it.

In a world where the nature of work is changing faster than career exploration materials can be generated, it is critical to help students learn how to translate their own strengths, talents and interests into meaningful careers or career paths.

Our partners have generated and assembled a series of resources to assist educators in helping students connect personal motivations and assets with career pathways.

Once we've helped the students make these connections, we can begin helping them SELECT the training, education, or direct placement that aligns with who they are.

The ASK Curriculum activates Indiana Career Explorer to CONNECT strengths and assets to potential education or training options after high school.
Connect: Grade 6              Connect: Grade 10
Connect: Grade 7              Connect: Grade 11
Connect: Grade 8              Connect: Grade 12
Connect: Grade 9
Junior Achievement has a number of resources that do a great job of tying the self-assessment to a variety of career types that complement that personality type and spell out where and how to access the education or training needed for each.
  • JA My Way is an easy tool that starts with a simple personality assessment and then walks students through careers, savings, and entrepreneurship.
  • JA Career Discovery was created by JA of Northern Indiana to connect students to local and regional career paths and training opportunities and uses the same simple personality assessment as JA My Way.
  • In support of eLearning, JA of Northern Indiana has created a series of videos for students.
    • Lesson 2 of JA It's My Future® helps middle school students learn about career paths and clusters.
    • Lesson 3 of JA It's My Future® helps middle school students learn about high growth careers.
    • Lesson 4 of JA It's My Future® helps middle school students learn about career mapping.
Ivy Tech Fort Wayne has wonderful resources to help connect students to education and training based on their interests.
